Repair Or Replace?

maximize-efficiency-heatingWhen something breaks on your system, you may find yourself thinking that it makes more sense to just replace it, rather than spending the money to repair. Sometimes that’s true, but sometimes not. Here’s a good rule of thumb to use when making that determination:
If your system is less than ten years old, it’s almost always better to repair, rather than replace. HVAC equipment is pretty robust and is designed to last a long time, providing you with years of reliable service.

At the 10-15 year mark, it could go either way and starts to become more an issue of how well your equipment has been maintained. If you’ve had it on a good maintenance program all that time, odds are that you’re still fine in terms of repairing, but if maintenance has been spotty, this could have shortened its useful life.

After the fifteen year mark, though, you’re almost always better off to replace. At that point, a new system will be vastly more efficient, and will save you big money each month on your power bill.

Before You Replace

Before you spend any money on a new system, though, be sure to check out our specials page. There, you’ll find a number of deals that can save you hundreds, or even thousands of dollars. We don’t just list the specials we run, but also keep an ear to the ground for other offers you can take advantage of. These come from a number of sources, including:

  • Manufacturer rebates on new equipment
  • Local grants for system upgrades
  • State government incentive programs
  • A variety of Federal programs designed to help pay for system upgrades

It’s definitely worth checking before you buy, because it can significantly reduce the price of a new system!
